It was two years and eight months ago that I came to the Fred Astaire Hoover Studio to take my first lesson. I was very nervous, but Dennis Woods took my hand and made it into a good experience. If it hadn't been for Dennis that could have been my last lesson.
Dancing has helped me so much because of arthiritis in my legs and knees and because I have a low energy level. Ballroom dancing motivates me to get out of bed, get dressed, and get going. Even if a lesson is all I do in a day, it is better than doing nothing.
Ballroom dancing is magic. It improves the way I feel and move. My friends and family can't understand why I can hardly walk, but am able to dance. It's that magic!
Since I've been at Fred Astaire's Studio, I've been in four dance shows, two competitions, and have reached my original goal of graduating from bronze into silver. (not bad for an arthritic sixty-five and one-half years old).
I am deeply indebted to the entire Fred Astaire staff in so many different ways. Everyone has been supportive and encouraging. I'm especially grateful to Dennis and Chris for their patience, persistance, and superb instruction. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely, Judith Popwell
